  • FreeWorlds : Tides of War

Today, we are proud to present to you the demonstrational package of our mod.

Since it has been taking time for us to finesse the gameplay elements for full release, we wanted to get something out there to our loyal fans. The demo version features prototype systems where you can check out all the ships that will be available in the final build. Also, you can fight in basic NPC battles.

Another reason for a demo release was the opportunity to test our multiple enhancements to the Freelancer graphics engine on a multitude of different systems. Please note that some of our more recent achievements (shadows, distortion mapping, etc..) did not make the final cut. However, rest assured that we will be updating the demo with fixes and improvements. Also, we plan on expanding the demo later on - stay tuned for more details!

But now, have fun flying around and shooting stuff in our demo! Download links below:

It has been quite some time since we've posted any news. Have no fear, we're still here. Development has been moving ahead at a solid clip. I've completely rebalanced the combat and flight mechanics, have been working on new stations and planets to add flavor to the universe, and working on stamping on any minor bugs I can. FriendlyFire has been working his magic on our renderer, increasing its power while also removing instability. Performance is currently very good for middle of the road to high end PCs. With my setup, which is fairly middle of the road itself at the moment, I get about 120 fps in areas with moderate traffic, and 70 fps during heavy combat. We've also begun the final architecture work for the universe.

There have been numerous gameplay additions, such as the gravity well overlay showed off last week in the images section. Just to clarify, this is a toggleable overlay, not something that is always on. Along with that, several other HUD upgrades have been implemented. These include a display for hostile, friendly, and your own turret arcs, fields of fire, and currently selected targets. They allow for more battlefield awareness, as well as a little metagame subterfuge. Because offlined weapons do not show up in the display, you can fake damage to someone who is using the turret overlay to assess targets.

Lately, I've been working with a group of testers to finish off my combat balance system, and in the following video, I, and one of my long time minions, Zhukar, roam around our testing system, blowing stuff up, and discussing the changes to combat as we go. Keep a watchful eye, you may notice some other graphical additions. It is a little lengthy, but its worth a watch.

If you like what you see, and have been playing, please don't forget to tell your friends, your communities you frequent and social sites like REDDIT/Twitter about this mod. Player word of mouth goes a long way and we'd appreciate any of the support we can get for this mod of ours! Thanks everyone!

Trade Routes, Bounties, and Taxes! | WDB #112

Posted by Alex 1 week ago
We’re back! This week we’re talking about the recent uptick in trade activity happening on the server, and some of the effects its having on our universe. Development Updates

In preparation for a more major revamp of the in-game economy, Kalis has been leaking some little bits and pieces about profitable trades in our current economy. As a result of this uncovered information, all the major factions have had to draw up a series of trade laws and agreements. But we’ll get into that later.

The following routes are examples available to civilian-aligned players.
                      • Yavin News shipped from Yavin to CEC Shipyards in Corellia will yield a profit of 100 credits per cargo unit, with an estimated profit of 120 credits per cargo unit/hour.
                      • TAARS systems shipped from Nar Hekka to BSY I-5 (in Bilbringi) will yield a profit of 400 credits per unit, estimated at 340 credits per cargo unit/hour.
                      • Tauntauns moved from Tsoss Beacon to one of the Hurrim Stations will bring in 150 credits per unit and around 150 credits per unit/hour.

So, depending on the size of your hold and the amount of time you’re willing to put in, it’s conceivable that a dedicated player could amass a small fortune in a not overwhelming amount of time.

As stated above, the newfound boost in trade activity has caused all the major factions to implement their own rules and laws regarding trade in their territory. The links below will bring you directly to the details of those laws:
                      • New Republic Trade Laws
                        • Of Note: Cargo vessels moving through NR space will be charged a 20% tax on the profit of the goods they are trading. A profit of 100 credits means 20 credits must be paid to the NR trade authorities.
                      • Imperial Public Relations Board
                        • Of Note: Please read the section on taxation. Similar to the NR, the Empire charges a 20% tax on trade profits.
                      • Corellian Protectorate Civilian Laws & Regulations
                        • Of Note: Ships flying through Corellian space must possess the necessary license for their vessel. A fee of 1250 credits per cargo unit available on the ship must be paid to the Corellian authorities to register. Failure to comply will result in further fines and penalties.
                      Bounty Board

A bounty board is now in effect for any players willing to risk a bit of danger for a handsome payout. Please check this board regularly to see who has a price on their head and how much the poster is willing to pay.

Anyone wishing to place a bounty on a ship must be sure to follow the format set up on the original post.

Next week we will update everyone on changes coming with the next patch. Until then, happy hunting!
